Over 80 boys were involved in the Year 3 and 4 production of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Each of the six classes played their role singing, dancing and speaking to a high level. Probably best known from Robert Browning’s humorous poem, this show adds extra layers and modern touches including a rapping Pied Piper and a score which includes ballad, rock and gospel styles of music which the boys clearly enjoyed.
The production required a large cast – children and adults from Hamelin, the Rat Pack, and a gospel chorus of young rats, all played with confidence and enthusiasm by the boys.
There were some delightful humorous touches. None of the poignancy, however, was lost, and the comedy emphasised the highly-charged emotional content when the children of Hamelin were taken away by the Piper as the Mayor had not honoured his payment.
Thank you to the boys and staff for another memorable Junior production.Return to news
