Driving and Putting his way to San Diego

– News

On Sunday 26 March, six-year-old Adam K. competed at the 2017 British Junior Golf Tour IMG Academy Junior World Championship qualifier at Park Hill golf course, played over 18 holes. There were 126 golfers from across the country that took part. The top golfers in the six age groups won a place in the 2017 finals in San Diego. We are delighted to report that Adam was the winner in his age group.

Sky Sports TV were also at the event in March and Adam made an appearance on the TV show called Gamechangers. The interviewer was really impressed with him and wondered if he had media training already.

Adam has just competed in the Junior World Championships at Torrey Pines in San Diego. There were over a thousand players from around the world competing in a variety of age ranges. Adam represented the United Kingdom in Boys Under 6 category.

His first round was a little disappointing as he was 14 over par and placed 16th. In the next two rounds he battled back with an 8 over par (4th best score of the day) and on the final round he was 5 over par, finishing 7th overall. Sadly if the birdie putt on the last had been sunk, he would have finished 2nd!

A fantastic achievement to finish 7th in the world, bearing in mind that Adam plays on average two hours a week. The competitors he played against from around the world are hitting a thousand balls a day and playing golf for five hours!  Adam is the second St Martin’s boy to play in the IMG Academy Junior World Championships as 16 year old Arran Kanth competed seven years ago.
