Children’s Author David Baddiel Inspires St Martin’s Writers

– News

On Thursday 23rd November, David Baddiel came for a school lunch at St. Martin’s in Northwood, before giving a talk, reading some extracts and signing books.

He spoke on the recurrent theme of wish fulfilment in his stories. David Baddiel asked the boys which celebrity parents they would like to be adopted by for a day, before declaring that he would choose Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip because, “I would like to go to Buckingham Palace and eat swan.”

The character from his books that David Baddiel would most like to become would be Ludwig the father pig.

The boys were enthusiastic about his visit. Pavan R in Year 5 (age 10) said, “He made everyone happy by making us all laugh.”

Sunjay A, also in Year 5 agreed, “It was very enjoyable. I was excited as I got three books signed by him.”

The talk kept the boys entertained, “I liked the comic style introduction and the readings,” said Prasathen S.

The visit was organised by the St. Martin’s School librarian, Mrs Oldroyd-Elliot in conjunction with Chorleywood Bookshop.
