St Martin’s hosted their annual ISFA football festivals during September. St Martin’s staff were joined by coaches from the Football Association to deliver coaching sessions to over 150 children over the three events. Over the three days we were pleased to welcome Reddiford, York House, St Anthony’s, Arnold House, Aldenham and Westbrook Hay to St Martin’s. The Under 8 and 9s festivals included a series of coaching sessions, followed by a chance for the boys to play each other in friendly games. The spirit of just enjoying playing football with no pressure of winning was evident throughout both festivals. Each player received a medal to celebrate their effort on the day.
After hosting both Under 8 and Under 9 football festivals, it was now the turn of the Under 10s to enjoy the first ever St Martin’s indoor ISFA Hub School futsal competition. The afternoon began with some expert coaching by Mark Swales from the FA, who introduced the boys to some of the skills and rules of futsal. Each team then went onto play each other in a round robin tournament. Mr Darren Miller, festival organiser was really pleased with how the competition went, “having an indoor futsal tournament is a different challenge for the players, you have to show close control and quick passing and movement in a small area”. The afternoon offered 50 boys the chance to try futsal and to compete in a fun and friendly environment. The event was played in a fantastic spirit and was well supported. Congratulations to St Anthony’s, winning the cup with some exciting team play.Return to news
